Active Learning Zone

The Active Learning Zone is a hands-on, phantom-based open access session which will take place on two days, Tuesday 11th November (14:15-17:15) and Wednesday 12th November (09:15-12:15).

It consists of a variety of stations offering practical experience in interventional procedures, including most of the following:

  • Gastrostomy
  • GI Stents
  • Biliary intervention
  • Ultrasound guided biopsy and drainage
  • Nephrostomy
  • Ultrasound guided arterial access and closure
  • Portacath insertion (long term vascular access)
  • Nerveblocks
  • Liquid / particle embolisation
  • Coil embolisation
  • Thrombectomy (general)
  • Arterial vessel preparation
  • Ablation
  • Paediatrics
  • Stroke thrombectomy

This session is unscripted and does not involve any didactic lectures.

Delegates of all levels of experience are invited to “come and have a play”, particularly medical students, junior physicians and radiology trainees.

Each station will have two experienced operators each, who will explain the procedures and available devices and will answer any queries. Discussion will be guided by the level of experience and the questions of the delegates.
